How to Document Medication Prior Authorizations Number in ICANotes+ (ScriptSure)
Overview
ICANotes+ uses ScriptSure for electronic prescribing. ScriptSure does not support initiating or submitting prior authorization (PA) requests.
For prior authorizations, ScriptSure recommends using CoverMyMeds, a third‑party service that helps prescribers submit PA requests and receive approvals from payers.
Once a prior authorization is approved, ICANotes+ allows prescribers to document the authorization number on the prescription for reference and pharmacy use.
Use CoverMyMeds to submit and manage prior authorization requests:

Prescribers obtain the prior authorization number after the PA request is approved by the payer. This typically occurs through one of the following methods:
CoverMyMeds
After the payer approves the request, the prior authorization number is displayed in CoverMyMeds and may also be included in approval notifications or status updates.
Payer Communication
Some payers provide the prior authorization number via fax, portal notification, or email after approval.
Once received, the prescriber must manually document the prior authorization number in ICANotes+ for reference and pharmacy use.
When to Enter a Prior Authorization Number in ICANotes+
Enter the prior authorization number in ICANotes+ after:
The PA request is submitted using CoverMyMeds (or another payer‑approved process), and
The payer approves the request and issues a prior authorization number.
