How to Set Up 2-Step Verification for Your ICANotes+ Account

  • You can select "Remember this trusted computer" to reduce future prompts.

Option 2: Set Up Mobile Phone Authenticator (Google Authenticator)

(1) Scan the QR Code

  • On the setup screen, a QR code will appear.
  • Open the Google Authenticator app on your phone and scan the code.
  • If you cannot scan, click I cannot scan the code and enter the setup key manually.

(2) Download Google Authenticator (If not already installed)

  • Download it from the Play Store or App Store.
  • Open the app and tap Get Started.
  • Select Scan a QR Code.

(3) Register Your Device

  • Align your camera with the QR code.
  • The app will generate 6-digit codes for authentication.

  • You can enable this setting during setup or at your next login.

You'll be asked to enter a 6-digit code for verification. Enter the code and click Verify Code.

Option 3: Set Up a Computer-Based Authenticator

There are many computer-based MFA token providers, including ones you may already use or may be provided by your password manager. They will all provide the same 6 digit codes that you would receive with other methods we support, like SMS or the Authenticator app.  If you have software meant for delivering standard 6 digit MFA codes based on an initial code you can use the code or scan the QR code provided by ICANotes+ during initial login to set up your computer-based authenticator. Below are instructions for two popular options, but you can use any software that provides the same functionality.

(1) Download Proton Authenticator

  1. Proton Authenticator is a free, open-source MFA token provider that can be used on your computer. It is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux as well as on iOS and Android. You can download it from their website: https://protonapps.com/
  2. Install and open the app.
  3. It is advised to create a Proton account for backup and recovery purposes. Follow the setup instructions to register with your phone number or email.
  4. Once on the MFA setup screen in ICANotes+, add a new code in Proton.  You will paste the key on the ICANotes+ setup screen into Secret key field in Proton and you will then have MFA keys you can use to register this device.
  5. Click Next and enter the 6-digit code from Proton into ICANotes+ and click Verify to complete the setup. You can also choose to remember the device by entering a second code from Proton to avoid needing to use MFA on that device for 30 days.

(2) Authenticator Browser Extension

  1. Authenticator is a popular extension to two supported ICANotes+ browsers, Chrome and Edge. The MFA accounts that you register with it will be tied to your browser profile, so they will be available on any computer where you log in to that profile.
  2. Add the extension to Chrome or Edge from their website: https://authenticator.cc/
  3. Once on the MFA setup screen in ICANotes+, choose to Scan QR Code from the Authenticator extension.  You will then draw a box around the QR code on the ICANotes+ MFA setup screen.
  4. Press Next and enter the 6-digit code from the Authenticator extension into ICANotes+ and click Verify to complete the setup. You can also choose to remember the device by entering a second code from Authenticator to avoid needing to use MFA on that device for 30 days.

Notes
If you lose access to your computer-based authenticator, you will need to contact ICANotes+ support to reset your MFA configuration.
