Prerequisites

Before starting the e-prescribing setup, make sure the provider's NPI, State License, and DEA number are entered in Personal Preferences. A DEA number is required only when setting up EPCS.

Step 1: Subscribe to a Prescribing Clinician Plan

The practice owner must have a Prescribing Clinician subscription plan, or another active user must be set up with a Prescribing Clinician plan before e-prescribing setup can begin.

The practice owner can subscribe by selecting Subscribe Now in the purple banner on the Dashboard.

The provider must have the Prescribing Clinician plan type to continue with e-prescribing setup.

Step 2: Set Up an eRx Onboarding Meeting

After subscribing, schedule an onboarding meeting with the eRx onboarding team.

1. Select the arrow next to your name in the upper-right corner.
2. Select Personal Preferences.
3. Open the E-Prescribing tab.
4. Select Request a Meeting.
   

Reserve approximately one hour for the onboarding meeting.

1. If you are both the practice owner and the prescriber, you can schedule the meeting directly.
2. If you are the practice owner but not the prescriber, select the prescriber when prompted. Both the practice owner and prescriber must attend the onboarding meeting.
   

Complete the subscription payment before scheduling the onboarding meeting.

If you are the practice owner but not the prescriber, select the prescriber when prompted before selecting Request a Meeting. Both you and the prescriber must attend the onboarding meeting.

 Select a date and time for the meeting.

Step 3: Pay One-Time Setup Fee

Pay the one-time setup fee.

After the payment is processed, select Complete Payment.

Step 4: E-Prescribing Registration and Identity Proofing

Registration and identity proofing is a one-time process that typically takes about 30 minutes.

Providers must complete their own identity verification to meet DEA requirements for electronic prescriptions for controlled substances (EPCS).

ScriptSure partners with ID.me for identity verification. After you complete the verification process, you can use your ID.me credentials to securely issue electronic prescriptions for controlled substances through ICANotes+.

You can have only one ID.me account. If you already have an ID.me account, use your existing account to complete the verification process.

 Complete any missing information and select Save.

Create a ScriptSure account

After you save your information, you are redirected to the ScriptSure setup page.

Your information is pulled from ICANotes+. If you need to make changes, return to ICANotes+ and update your information before continuing. You cannot edit this information on the ScriptSure setup page.

Complete the ScriptSure registration:

Step 1: Review the Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and Code of Conduct. Select the checkbox to agree to the terms and confirm that you are not a robot. Select NEXT.

Step 2:  Review your details and select NEXT.

Complete ID.me identity proofing

After completing ScriptSure registration, you are redirected to the ID.me website to complete identity proofing.

If you already have an ID.me account, sign in to your existing account.

If you need to create an account:

1. Enter an email address you can access.
2. Create a password.
3. Accept the terms of service.
4. Select Create account.
5. Confirm your email address using the confirmation email.

If you sign in to an existing ID.me account, email confirmation is not required.

After your email is confirmed, a new browser tab opens to confirm the verification.

Set up multi-factor authentication

Set up multi-factor authentication (MFA) to secure your ID.me account.

For future ID.me logins, you will use the authentication method configured during this step. Use a device that you will have with you when e-prescribing.

Select either Push Notification or Code Generator Application. Do not select Security Key.

• Push Notification: Receive a notification on your device and tap it to authenticate.
• Code Generator Application: Use a code generated by an authenticator application.

Follow the on-screen instructions to download and configure the ID.me Authenticator app.

Follow the instructions on your computer and mobile device to complete the setup. If you select Push Notification, select or tap Yes when prompted to complete the setup.

After MFA/2FA setup is complete, you will see the YOUR ACCOUNT IS SECURE message.

Verify your identity

Select your preferred identity verification method.

You will need to provide information such as a government-issued photo ID and a live selfie. You will also be asked to enter your Social Security number.

If prompted for a phone number, use a number for a device that is in your possession and may be associated with you in financial records. This does not need to be the same device used for MFA/2FA.

Submit your identification

Choose one of the available options to submit your identification:

• Take a photo with my device: Use your phone to take a photo of your identification.
• Upload an image: Upload a saved image of your identification.

If you choose Take a photo with my device:

1. Enter your cell phone number and select Continue.
2. Open the text message sent to your phone.
3. Select the link in the message.
4. Select Take a photo.
5. Select Take Photo.
6. Align your identification within the frame and capture the photo.
7. Repeat the process for the back of the identification.
8. Select Continue.

After the upload is successful, return to the original browser window.

Enter your Social Security number and select Continue.

Complete the video selfie

Select Take video Selfie or Take a selfie with my webcam.

Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the selfie. For best results:

• Face the camera directly.
• Use portrait orientation.
• Make sure your entire face is visible.
• Turn off the camera flash.
• Avoid glare.
• Use a well-lit room.

Select Continue after the selfie is successfully completed.

Review your information and select Continue.

1. If verification is successful, the You're Verified message appears. Follow the on-screen instructions to continue.
2. If verification is unsuccessful, see Unsuccessful Self-Serve Verification section later in this article.
   

Authorize ScriptSure

Select Allow to authorize ScriptSure to receive your verified identity information and enable e-prescribing in ICANotes+.

Return to your ICANotes+ session. Refresh the page if necessary.

Unsuccessful Self-Serve Verification

If ID.me cannot verify your identity through the self-serve process, you may need assistance from an ID.me team member. Not all users who receive an error code or see the RETRY button need to complete a video session.

You must retry the verification process once before ID.me provides the option to connect with a team member.

If verification is unsuccessful:

1. Select RETRY.
2. Select a different verification method or try the same method again.
3. Complete the verification process.

Verify your identity by video call

Select VERIFY IDENTITY VIA VIDEO CALL to connect with an ID.me team member, called a Trusted Referee.

Follow the on-screen instructions to:

1. Upload any additional required documents.
2. Take a selfie.
3. Connect with the Trusted Referee for virtual identity verification.

You must upload the required documents and selfie before starting the video session.

If you do not have the required documents available, select SAVE SESSION AND EXIT at the bottom of the screen. You will receive an email with a link to return to the same point in the verification process.

Step 5 (Optional): Approve a Provider for EPCS

Complete this step if the provider needs to prescribe controlled substances.

After a new prescriber completes e-prescribing registration and identity proofing, a staff administrator with Staff Administrator (with eRx) permissions must approve the provider's EPCS request.

This approval is required only once per prescriber. The provider cannot prescribe controlled substances until the approval is complete.

Set up a staff administrator with eRx permissions

1. Go to Settings > Account Management.
2. Select Edit next to the staff user's name.
3. Make sure the user's role is Staff Administrator (with eRx).

Grant the staff administrator access

After the staff administrator is designated, the provider must access the eRx module, accept the terms of agreement, and grant the staff administrator access.

Before accessing the eRx module, make sure the client has an address and phone number in their demographics.

To access the eRx module:

1. Open a client chart.
2. Open a note that allows prescribing a medication, for example, Progress Note.
3. Select PN, Part 2.
4. Select Enter next to Medications.
5. Select the Medication List tab.
6. Select Manage Medication(s).

You will see a Medication List tab. Click the Manage Medication(s) button to launch into the eRx module.

Review and accept the End User License terms and policies when prompted.

Review the access request for the staff administrator. The staff administrator appears in the lower-left corner of the Access Requests window.

Select Grant to allow the staff administrator to access eRx and prescribe on your behalf.

Approve the provider for EPCS

The staff administrator must now log in and access the eRx module.

1. Open a client chart.
2. Open a Progress Note.
3. Select PN, Part 2.
4. Select Enter next to Medications.
5. Select the Medication List tab.
6. Select Manage Medication(s).

Review and accept the End User License terms and policies.

Review the EPCS request for the provider.

Review the prompt explaining the DEA requirement for one-time administrator approval of a prescriber for EPCS.

Select Approve.
