Steps to Change the Phone Associated with an ID.me Account

Overview

If you get a new phone, you must update your ID.me account to continue approving controlled prescriptions. Follow these steps to update your phone number:

Step 1: Log in to Your ID.me Account

  1. Go to ID.me.
  2. Click My Account or Sign-In at the top right corner.
  3. Enter your ID.me username and password.

Step 2: Verify Access to Your Account

  • If you have your old phone: Use the ID.me Authenticator app to complete the login and move to Step 3.
  • If you don’t have your old phone:
    • Click UPDATE YOUR SETTINGS HERE at the bottom of the login window.
    • Confirm your email address to proceed.


Step 3: Update Your Phone for Authentication

  1. After logging in, go to the Sign-In & Security tab.
  2. Locate the section to modify the device you use to approve controlled prescriptions.
  3. Click Set Up next to Push Notification, if not already set up.
  4. Select Text Message and enter your new phone number.
  5. You will receive a text message with a link to download the ID.me Authenticator app.





Step 4: Install and Approve Your New Phone

  1. Check your phone’s text messages for the link.
  2. Tap the link to download and install the ID.me Authenticator app from the App Store or Play Store.
  3. Open the app and click YES 
    to approve the new phone.



Step 5: Finalize the Update

  1. Your new phone should now appear under Push Notification in your ID.me account.
  2. If you were previously using SMS text messages to approve prescriptions, remove this option:
    • Click the trash can icon next to Text Message authentication.
